Grand Brissogne between Mountain Trails and History
Grand Brissogne between Mountain Trail and Memory
Trail 11 runs from Grand-Brissogne at 1,725 metres within the municipality of Pollein. The elevation provides a concrete reference to this trail for travel planning. It connects the lower part of the Vallone di Les Laures with Arpisson, which lies on a terrace at the foot of the north face of Monte Émilius. Arpisson can be identified by several old alpine huts. When planning the route, travellers can consider not only Grand-Brissogne but also the lower part of the Vallone di Les Laures and Arpisson as specific landscape references. As a hiking theme, the trail can thus be incorporated independently into an individual travel plan.
Routes operated by SVAP
SVAP operates route 12 “Grand Brissogne-Neyran”. It also operates route 1 “Aosta-Pollein-Brissogne”. The two routes can be considered as a separate aspect in travel planning alongside the trail and cultural sites.
Winter Activity and Historical Remembrance
In the Les Laures area, experienced ice climbers can climb the Pink Gully route in winter at an altitude of around 1,400 metres. For seasonal planning, the winter season and the climbers’ experience are key factors for Pink Gully. The Ménabréaz Bivouac is dedicated to the memory of the partisan Ernesto Ménabréaz. Thus, alongside its winter route, the Les Laures area also has a specific connection to the memory of a person.
Fëta de l'Oumbra and Tornalla
In August, the Fëta de l'Oumbra is Brissogne’s most important gastronomic folk festival and celebrates the town’s patron saint. As a festival held in August, it provides a different cultural accent from the preserved architectural monument in the municipality. In the municipality of Brissogne, only the imposing main tower from the 13th century remains of the monumental Castello di Brissogne castle complex. The inhabitants call it “Tornalla”. “Tornalla” refers to the surviving main tower, not to the former castle complex as a whole.
