Pila: ski resort, hiking trails and alpine views
Pila between ski slopes and high-altitude trails
Pila is connected to Aosta by gondola lift. The area includes a ski resort, various cycling disciplines, walking and trekking trails, Stella di Pila, Lago Chamolé and an Adventure Park. The trails pass through different elevations and lead to specific points in the area.
Winter sports and cycling in Pila
Pila ski resort has 4 black, 21 red and 4 blue runs with a total length of 70 kilometres. The area reaches an altitude of 2,700 metres; the runs are divided into several difficulty levels. The 70 kilometres are distributed among these descents and do not refer to a single run.
Cycling in Pila is also associated with several areas. Pila Bike Park includes the “DH World Cup Corrado Herin” downhill run. In addition, downhill, cross-country, flow trail, enduro, e-bike, all-mountain and pump track are all part of cycling in Pila. Pila’s MTB rental service is located next to the ticket offices at the Pila–Stella departure station and offers downhill, enduro and e-bikes.
Up from Aosta to Stella di Pila
You can reach Pila from central Aosta by gondola lift in 18 minutes; the lift takes you directly to an altitude of 1,800 metres. The valley station of the Aosta–Pila gondola lift can be reached on foot from Aosta railway station via a short pedestrian underpass. This specifically describes access both from the city centre and from the railway station.
The Alta balconata di Pila route can also be started by taking the gondola lift to Stella di Pila. Stella di Pila is located at an altitude of 2,723 metres and offers views of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Gran Paradiso and Monte Rosa. Taking the gondola lift therefore leads to a higher starting point for this route.
Walking trails, trekking and Lago Chamolé
Maps and GPX tracks are available for walking and trekking trails in Pila. The selection ranges from easy routes to more challenging trails for experienced hikers. For the specific tour to Lago Chamolé, the starting point, trail number, length and walking time are also defined.
One specific tour leads from the upper station of the Chamolé chairlift to Lago Chamolé: the hike is 678 metres long, takes 15 minutes in one direction and follows trail 19C. The stated time refers to one direction, so the return journey must be taken into account separately when planning a round trip.
Lago Chamolé lies in a green hollow and offers views of Mont Blanc, the Gran San Bernardo Valley and Gran Combin.
Pila Adventure Park
Pila Adventure Park offers Tibetan bridges, log bridges, zip lines and net bridges; safety equipment and supervision by staff are also included.
