San Paolo: Street Art, Nature and History

San Paolo can be explored through several clearly distinct facets: murals shape the appearance of the neighborhood, natural and cultural destinations lie in the surrounding area, and a beach further afield in the region expands the options. Street Art in the Neighborhood

The centerpiece of the neighborhood’s art is “Fermata San Paolo – Stazione di Arte Urbana”. The project focuses on 24 murals that have transformed the San Paolo neighborhood into an open-air museum. The “QM – Quartiere Museale San Paolo” project adds another distinctive element: ten artists painted ten large walls in the San Paolo neighborhood. Together, these two projects make art right in the neighborhood an independent part of the exploration.

Connection with Bari City Center

The Bari Centrale–Quartiere San Paolo metropolitan railway is relevant for getting between San Paolo and Bari. It connects Bari city center with San Paolo in 15 minutes. The Lama Balice Regional Nature Park is located near San Paolo. Foxes (Vulpes vulpese) and hedgehogs (Erinaceus europacus) live permanently in the Lama Balice Regional Nature Park. Alongside the street art, this provides a natural area with a variety of Mediterranean habitats and landscape types.

Prehistory and Festive Tradition

Q.re San Paolo A is one of the sites with settlement traces dating from the Early Neolithic. A different point in time is represented by the outdoor patronal feast in honor of San Paolo Apostolo, which is associated with June 29. Prehistory and religiously shaped festivities thus provide two different ways of accessing the local past and present.

Cultural Destinations in the Surrounding Area

The Cittadella Mediterranea della Scienza, a museum, is located near San Paolo. Also nearby are the Palazzo Angarano-Maranta palace and the Palazzo del I ramo della famiglia Capitaneo palace.
