Harbor, tower and beach

Santo Spirito combines maritime orientation with a variety of experiences by the water. The Torre di Santo Spirito stands at the eastern, sea-facing corner and overlooks the small harbor of Santo Spirito. The tower and harbor give the town a clear connection to the sea, while the beach facilities offer a different way to experience the coast.

The historic lido on Santo Spirito beach has been operating since 1902. In addition to the historic lido, some rocky areas allow for free bathing. Pedal boat and canoe rentals are also available at Santo Spirito beach. The range therefore extends from the classic lido and swimming in rocky areas to activities on the water. When planning a day by the water, the small harbor, historic lido and rocky areas can be viewed as different aspects of the town.

The renewed waterfront promenade

The Santo Spirito waterfront promenade was reopened after three years of construction work. The newly designed section, which is open to pedestrians, runs between the tower near the Levante pier and Via Udine. The section between the tower near the Levante pier and Via Udine can be included in the day’s itinerary as a distinct part of the waterfront promenade.

The renewed waterfront promenade includes 14,500 m² of space intended entirely for pedestrians. It also features a completed two-way cycling and pedestrian path. For pedestrians and cyclists, this section is characterized by the space intended entirely for pedestrians and the two-way cycling and pedestrian path.

Palaces in the surrounding area

Several palaces are located in the surrounding area of Santo Spirito: Palazzo Vernice, Palazzo Saraceno, Bucale Palace and Palazzo Marziani. The four palaces complement the coastal area with buildings in the vicinity of Santo Spirito.

Landscape and natural attractions

The surrounding area of Santo Spirito also includes the beaches Spiaggia Il Crocifisso and Spiaggia Pane e Pomodoro, as well as the natural arch Arco Delle Meravigli. The Regional Natural Park Parco Naturale Regionale Lama Balice is also located nearby. The attractions thus range from additional beach destinations to a natural area in the vicinity of Santo Spirito.

Maritime history and tradition

The remains of a small Roman transport ship were found on the seabed near the Bay of Santo Spirito. The discovery adds a maritime past to the present-day image of the town, visible not only along the shoreline but also beneath the surface of the water.

The traditional celebration of Maria SS Immacolata includes a boat procession carrying the image. It is accompanied by the Gozzi boats of the Associazione Marinai; the boats moored in the natural harbor are also blessed. In Santo Spirito, beach, waterfront, harbor, nature and religiously shaped maritime tradition therefore stand alongside one another as different travel interests.
