Borgo Segezia: planned in the Tavoliere

Borgo Segezia was built from 1939 onwards as part of a strategic plan to reorganize the Tavoliere. This origin gives the town a clear historical context. Segezia thus represents a deliberately planned settlement whose spatial layout closely connects architecture and public space.

Square and urban planning

The buildings of Borgo Segezia are arranged around a large, rectangular central square. It is the meeting point of the two main axes, and all the public buildings are located along it. The urban composition uses offset axes. Each half-axis ends with the façades of the town hall, the church-bell tower complex, the school and the Casa del Fascio. The square thus connects the buildings and lines of sight into a coherent organizing principle.

Church and church square

The Church of Immacolata di Fatima and the Campanile di Borgo Segezia face each other across a broad church square. The church has a single-nave layout, a strongly splayed entrance portal and a roof with a wooden roof structure. Its cladding consists of Trani stone with ceramic moulded elements from Vietri. The space, entrance and roof give the building a clearly articulated architectural form.

The campanile as a geometric accent

The Campanile di Borgo Segezia has a square floor plan and nine superimposed loggia levels. The pillars and architraves of these levels are clad in white Trani stone. The tower is crowned by a cubic bell chamber, a polygonal prism and a truncated conical roof with green maiolica diamond tiles. The campanile is thus composed of clearly distinguishable geometric forms and striking material details.
