Frigole between Beach, Paths and Water Management History

Frigole between Coast and Water Landscape

Frigole combines a coastal landscape with water management history and themed routes for cycling and walking. This gives you several ways to shape your trip: beach and sea, nature and landscape, active pursuits, or the history of land reclamation. Your choice of accommodation can reflect the theme you want to define your stay.

Beach, Lidos and Marina

The coast of Frigole is predominantly sandy and includes a wide beach with very fine sand. A large part of Frigole’s beach is served by lidos. Marina Frigole received the Blue Flag for 2026. If you make the coast the focus when choosing a hotel, you can incorporate these different themes into your travel plans.

Acquatina and the Waterside Landscape

Acquatina, located near Frigole, is an artificial body of water with lagoon-like features. Aquatina di Frigole is designated as a Site of Community Importance (SCI). The waterside landscape thus complements the beach with a natural and scenic aspect that can be incorporated into your travel plans.

Cycle Route and Themed Paths

The final section of the Lecce–Frigole cycle route connects Piazza Bertacchi with Acquatina and the Frigole pumping station. The cycle route runs tangentially to the SCI Bosco La Lizza – Macchia del Pagliarone. Along this section of the route, the local area, water management and landscape therefore emerge together as planning themes.

The Tramareterra project comprises two circular routes. The coastal loop begins in the centre of Frigole and runs along the coastal section. The themed paths are designed as “parkways” with educational, recreational and ecological functions. The circular routes are connected by a link intended exclusively for cycling and walking. For your travel plans, this places alongside the beach a route concept that brings together exercise, leisure and ecological themes.

Water Management History on the Coast

The Idrofore di Frigole facility collects water below sea level through a network of canals, pumps it up and channels it into the sea. The Idroforo facility was commissioned on 2 December 1905. A tall chimney belonging to the Idrofore di Frigole stands on the coast of Frigole and is associated with the state-led drainage of the marshes at the beginning of the 20th century. For visitors interested in culture, this provides a tangible link to the history of the landscape, extending beyond the beach and paths.

A Seasonal Occasion

The “Sagra del pesce” takes place in Frigole during the first ten days of July. This timing gives your stay a seasonal focus. If you would like to combine the festival with the coast, Tramareterra or the history of water management, you can choose a hotel in Frigole according to your interests. This allows you to take the beach, landscape, cycling and walking paths, as well as local history, into account when planning your trip.
