Trepuzzi: Palazzo, Festivals and Casalabate

Culture between the Palazzo and the Mother Church

Trepuzzi combines the architectural history of Palazzo Barrile-Spinelli with religious celebrations and its coastal connection to Casalabate. It also offers events featuring music, regional products and activities for children. When planning your trip, you can consider culture, local festival traditions and the coast side by side.

Palazzo Barrile-Spinelli, commonly known as “Castello Nuovo”, was commissioned by the Condò, the feudal lords of Trepuzzi, at the beginning of the 17th century as a fortified residence. Its trapezoidal layout is arranged around a quadrangular courtyard, and the building has two levels. The Palazzo includes a chapel dedicated to the holy Apostles James and Philip. It was built before 1640 through the devotion of Gian Domenico Condò of Lecce.

The Chiesa di Maria Santissima Assunta in Cielo is the mother church of Trepuzzi. It was built in 1603 on top of a smaller existing structure.

Festivals with a Religious and Local Character

The Festa di San Raffaele Arcangelo is celebrated every year on the fourth Sunday in October with civil and religious festivities. It honors Saint Raphael the Archangel, the patron saint of travelers. It includes a procession through the streets of Trepuzzi, accompanied by the music of a marching band. The festival also features an animal and livestock fair with stalls offering tastings of local products.

The combination of a religious occasion, public procession, marching-band music and tasting stalls gives the Festa di San Raffaele Arcangelo a diverse local character.

At the 2026 Carnevale Trepuzzino “Cultura e Immaginario”, the masked groups gathered on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. in the market area on Via Gramsci. The parade began at 3:00 p.m. and ended with performances at around 4:30 p.m. in Largo Margherita.

Bande a Sud Kids is a project for children. Workshops and events on July 29 and on August 11, 12 and 13 promote the transmission of the tradition to younger generations. The dates therefore fall both in July and on three consecutive days in August.

Casalabate and an Accessible Coastal Experience

Casalabate is the marina of the municipality of Trepuzzi and also a tourist-oriented coastal town on the Adriatic Sea. The southern part is under the municipality of Trepuzzi, while the northern part belongs to the municipality of Squinzano. If you include Casalabate as a coastal destination, you should take this divided municipal affiliation into account.

For inclusive experiences on the open sea, AbilBeach provides accessible, transparent canoes. AbilBeach is a free, barrier-free beach service in Casalabate, the marina of Trepuzzi, near “Bar del Sole” beach on Via San Giuseppe.
