Stalettì looks both toward the Ionian coast of the Province of Catanzaro and toward a history shaped by local traditions. The Bay of Caminia lies between the Torrazzo and Pietragrande lookout cliffs; there is a sandy beach, seaside walks and beach sports. The religious building of Panaja in Caminia di Stalettì is believed to have been built as a church in the 13th century; it continued to serve as an oratory until at least the 17th century. Casino Pepe dates from the 17th or 18th century. It is a fortified residence of the Lucifero family on the ancient Via Grande road in Copanello Lido. Two polygonal corner towers and numerous loopholes were intended for observing and protecting the building. The Chiesa Madre has a late-16th-century portal made of honey-colored sandstone.

The ancient heritage of Copanello includes the Vasche di Cassiodoro: the remains of an ancient fish-farming facility carved into the rock. At the Vasche di Cassiodoro, bathing between the granite rocks and swimming in the clear water off the rocky coast are considered pleasant and relaxing.

Customs and Flavors

Religious life is particularly evident in the Easter customs. These include the Riti della Settimana Santa, sacred rites of popular Catholicism. The residents preserve them with devotion, and they are marked by strong participation from the local community. The celebration in honor of San Gregorio Taumaturgo is associated with a traditional Mass on November 17.

Several Easter pastries are part of Stalettì’s culinary heritage. Cuzzupa is a traditional Easter pastry from Stalettì and is usually prepared at home in the days before Maundy Thursday. Cazzunedi are Easter pastries from Stalettì made with ricotta, chocolate and walnuts. Stalettì is also one of the main destinations along the Strada dei Sapori Cassiodorei gastronomic route on the Ionian coast of the Province of Catanzaro.
