The Giglio as a Living Tradition
The Tiro del Giglio takes place every year on 27 August. During the traditional Traslazione del Giglio, the Giglio is pulled through the town in a procession. A tractor and the community help pull the structure by hand using 16 ropes. A folklore group accompanies the procession to the rhythm of the marching band. The celebration officially begins on the Saturday before 27 August with the Alzata ritual, during which the lying Giglio is brought into an upright position.
