Paolisi at the foot of Mount Partenio
Accommodation in Paolisi
Paolisi lies at the foot of the Partenio mountain range and is rich in chestnut groves that enclose the Valle Caudina.
Palazzi and villas with distinctive details
At Palazzo De Mauro, a courtyard paved with white stone preserves an ornate fountain. Preserved arcades and exterior staircases lead to the loggias and give the building a clearly structured spatial layout. For those interested in culture, the courtyard, arcades, exterior staircases, and loggias are all found together here as tangible architectural details.
Palazzo Bifano is also known as Casa Averna and was built between the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The building comprises more than 40 rooms, two courtyards, and a walled garden. The size and sequence of these areas define Palazzo Bifano's spatial structure.
Palazzo Bifaniello has an entrance portal dating from 1787 and a paved courtyard with a stone fountain. These elements are part of an original 17th-century building structure. Villa Bove is an L-shaped, two-storey aristocratic villa built by local craftsmen between 1792 and 1872.
Another atrium with neoclassical painting
Palazzo Bifano Fabbrica Nuova has an atrium with neoclassical trompe-l'œil painting and a family coat of arms. Alongside the paved courtyards and stone fountains, this provides an interior space featuring illusionistic wall decoration.
Palazzo Romano also preserves striking details: it was built in 1773 and has an entrance portal made of dressed stone blocks, as well as a late Baroque balcony. Villa Bove also features a sun terrace extending over the Maietta-Gallo courtyard, creating an appealing vantage point.
Religious architecture with stucco, majolica, and bifora windows
The Cappella del SS Rosario features Baroque and Neoclassical stucco decorations. Its majolica works depict the Madonna del Rosario and the kneeling Saints Clare and Dominic. The Chiesa di San Tommaso complements this architectural picture with a Romanesque-style façade, a triangular pediment, and bifora windows instead of a rose window. Thus, the chapel focuses on its interior decoration, while the Chiesa di San Tommaso is defined by the structure of its façade.
A walk from the border area with Rotondi allows visitors to view the architectural elements of Paolisi's small Caudine centre.
Landscape and getting to Paolisi
In the Paolisi area, there is also a fitness facility surrounded by unspoilt nature along the “traforo”. Its location along the “traforo” connects the facility with Paolisi's landscape.
For travel arrangements, the Rotondi-Paolisi station is relevant: it is a stop on the Ferrovia della Valle Caudina. The railway line is currently affected by construction work. When planning their day, visitors interested in architecture can treat the walk through Paolisi and the landscape sites on Mount Partenio and along the “traforo” as separate points of focus.
