Torre Lupara Between Agriculture and History

Torre Lupara is located in the municipality of Pastorano, below the Via Appia and in the plain of the Agro Campano. The area combines an agriculture-oriented present with historical traces dating back to the 18th century and beyond. Buffalo Farming and Mozzarella

Azienda zootecnica Iemma Cesare Giulio is an agricultural training farm in Pastorano (Caserta). Agricola Casearia Lupara is located in Contrada Torre Lupara, 81050 Pastorano (Caserta), Italy. Lupara Mozzarella di Bufala Campana PDO is made exclusively from the farm’s own milk. This means that the focus is not only on the finished product, but also on the connection between livestock farming, milk and cheese production.

The Mozzarella Experience focuses on agriculture, buffalo and the production of mozzarella. Visitors can feed a calf with a bottle, make mozzarella themselves and taste the farm’s products. The farm’s history also dates back to 1943, when Ugo Iemma moved the family’s buffalo to Torre Lupara. In 1960, Ugo Iemma purchased the world’s first automatic milking machine for buffalo.

Casa Lanza and the Historical Traces

Casa Lanza is one of the historic buildings in the Pastorano area. The building was located in Spartimento di Roma, which bears the name Torre Lupara, in the municipality of Pastorano. The Casa Lanza complex included a tavern and a chapel. In 1794, Biagio Lanza built the country house that stands there today on the site of an existing small accommodation building belonging to the Masseria Spartimento di Roma. The Treaty of Casalanza was concluded at Casa Lanza on May 20, 1815.

The Chapel of Sant’Anna was built in 1712 and received Pope Benedict XIII (Orsini) on May 27, 1729. The agricultural building of Torre Lupara has four projecting towers. These towers were used as observation posts against brigands in the 18th century.

Location and Directions

From the Capua exit of the A1, drive in the direction of Gaeta. After approximately one kilometre, turn left toward Torre Lupara and continue along the road for about three kilometres to the agricultural training farm.
