Some authors regard its portal as a “trophy of the Holy Land”. Sant’Ambrogio alla Rienna dates from the 9th to 8th century; Sant’Ambrogio alla Renna is considered an isolated Romanesque church.

Pilgrimage, Science and Trails

The Santuario di Maria SS. dell'Eterno was built in 1623 in the wooded hills of Bosco Toppole. The sanctuary contains a grotto where the find took place. In May, the site is the destination of ongoing pilgrimages; the feast of the Virgin in the hamlet is celebrated on the third Sunday in August. It can be reached via the former S.R.164 and the Maccaronera-Pezze road.

At the foot of Monte Nebulano, the Osservatorio Astronomico “Gian Camillo Gloriosi” was built in 1986. International scientific events are held there every year. The Sentiero 105 connects Montecorvino Rovella on the southern foothills of the Monti Picentini with the central part of the massif at Monte Accellica and ends at Valico delle Croci di Acerno. This pass is the most important historic route connecting to the Avellano side.
