Vergato lies in an alluvial basin near the Reno River. Its cultural attractions range from the town hall and a historic palazzo to art collections, museums and sacred architecture. Together with the trekking routes, the protected natural site and the culinary traditions in the surrounding hamlets, they offer various starting points for an individually planned trip.

Culture in the Town Hall and the Town
MuseOntani is located on the ground floor of Vergato's town hall. In the same building, four glass windows depict the cycle of life, the day and the seasons.
The Palazzo dei Capitani della Montagna reflects a different historical development. In 1483, the building was transformed from a residential house originally dating from the 15th century into the seat of the Capitanato della Montagna. It illustrates how a residential building acquired a new political function. The dates 1483 at the palazzo and 2019 at the fountain are far apart and mark different points in Vergato's history.
In 2019, the “RenVergatell AppenninMontovolo” fountain was inaugurated opposite Vergato railway station. The fountain combines mythological elements, local symbolism with references to the area surrounding Vergato, and artistic creativity.
Art, Tarot and Architecture in the Municipality
The old centre of Tolè is home to an open-air art collection featuring more than one hundred sculptures, paintings and murals. Here, art is not confined to a single exhibition space but is presented in a collection spread throughout the town centre.
The Museo internazionale dei Tarocchi displays original tarot card decks as well as contemporary tarot art by Italian and international artists. The art incorporates techniques ranging from collage and sculpture to video, performance and music. The museum also offers themed tours and workshops for adults and children.
In Riola, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta was designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and completed in 1978 after his death. Near Riola, the Costonzo tower house dates from the 14th to the 16th century. The two buildings represent different historical and architectural reference points, so you do not have to limit your cultural itinerary to a single era. In and near Riola, a 20th-century building and a tower house with origins between the 14th and 16th centuries can therefore be seen together.
Trekking, Protected Nature and Local Cuisine
The Vie del Sole comprise five trekking routes, all of which begin in Cereglio, a hamlet in the municipality of Vergato.
The Grotte di Soprasasso have been classified by the Emilia-Romagna region as a geosite of local significance and are therefore protected.
In Tolè, at the Sagra della Patata, you can try potato dishes and French fries at the Pro Loco stalls. Both the Sagra della Patata and the open-air art collection are located in Tolè.
