Festivals and community life

The traditional patron saint's festival “Sant’Agostino in Festa” is held again every year. The programme from 19 August to 29 August 2026 includes tournaments, music, religious events, gastronomy and community activities. For a trip in August 2026, the visit can be clearly scheduled to coincide with this festival programme.

The Biblioteca di Sant’Agostino also contributes to the cultural life of the town with regular meetings with authors, creative workshops and activities for children. Meetings with authors and creative workshops offer different focal points from the tournaments and music of the patron saint's festival.

Church, local history and museums

The parish church of Sant’Agostino dates back to the 16th century. At its present location, it was completed in the early 19th century. The church also hosts concerts, Christmas events and initiatives organised together with local associations and schools.

The sculpture “vie di Terra ed Acqua” by sculptor Salvatore Amelio stands on the main square of Sant’Agostino. It is dedicated to the history of the town and thus establishes a clear connection between public space and the local past.

In the vicinity of Sant’Agostino are the Pinacoteca Civica “Il Guercino”, a museum, and MAGI'900 - Museo delle Eccellenze artistiche e storich, also a museum. Both institutions complement the cultural references already provided by the church, library, festivals and the sculpture on the main square. For cultural planning, the two museums form a separate thematic area in the vicinity of Sant’Agostino.

River floodplain and artificial canal

Bosco della Panfilia covers approximately 81 hectares and lies in a wide bend of the Reno floodplain. The area is regularly flooded during high water. The size of the forest, its location in the river bend and the changing water level therefore collectively form part of its landscape character. The changing water level shapes the visual impression of the Reno floodplain and significantly alters it during high water.

The Cavo Napoleonico is also connected to the water landscape. The artificial canal is a hydraulic engineering feature whose construction began in the Sant’Agostino area in order to divert the Reno via the Panaro into the Po.

Truffle tradition and the annual cycle

The Sagra del Tartufo di Sant’Agostino traditionally takes place during the first weeks of September and in autumn. The municipality of Sant’Agostino has been a member of the Associazione Nazionale Città del Tartufo since 2009. The membership is connected with the area's strong truffle tradition and its association with Bosco Panfilia. Culinary tradition, landscape and a recurring event period thus form part of a shared regional context.
