Since the completion of Via Giardini in 1777/80, Montagnana, with the Trattoria La Noce, served as a stopover and resting point for travellers, carters and other road users. This historical connection gives the place a clear link to the history of travel and makes its location on the road part of its inherited identity.

The Museo Giardino della Rosa Antica covers 43 hectares. Three hectares of this area are devoted exclusively to more than 800 varieties of roses. The Museo della CiviltĂ Contadina di Montagnana is located inside and outside an 18th-century building. It displays more than 300 agricultural tools and equipment, making the material side of rural life an experience in its own right. The Museo della CiviltĂ Contadina di Montagnana includes a small cultural and historical tour featuring the museum, an Acetaia, an Enoteca and a Cantina. Anyone interested in rural work, everyday history and regional products can explore various topics here as part of a coherent visit.
Churches, Remembrance and Historical Evidence
The Chiesa di Sant’Andrea Apostolo was built in 1859 and incorporated an older building dating from 1635. Its rectangular floor plan, single-nave layout and gabled roof give the building a clearly recognisable architectural structure. The Chiesetta della Resistenza was built in 1965 with the involvement of the mountain communities, the province and the municipality of Modena. It commemorates the contribution and sacrifice of the mountain population in the partisan struggle against the Germans and Fascists in 1943–45. The Chiesetta della Resistenza is located a few metres from the road and can be reached via a short staircase. Montagnana is also home to a bell bearing the inscription “anno del Signore 1262”, which is described as the oldest bell in the Modena area. Together, these buildings and historical testimonies provide a multifaceted picture of the local past – from older building structures and religious architecture to the memory of the partisan struggle.
