Museums on the history of Montese
The Museo Storico di Montese documents the history of the Montese area from prehistoric times to the post-war period. Its sections are dedicated to the Gothic Line and the Força Expedicionária Brasileira, or FEB for short.
The Museo di Iola is housed in the rectory of the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Iola, Montese. The museum includes a rare collection of color photographs donated by veteran Cruz Rios of the 10th Mountain Division. The Museo Diffuso della Linea Gotica comprises a museum in Montese focusing on the Brazilian FEB and a museum in Iola focusing on the U.S. 10th Mountain Division.
Rocca, Oratories and the Gothic Line
The Rocca di Montese is a 13th-century fortification with a curtain wall and an imposing tower crowned with Ghibelline crenellations.
The Oratorio di Riva, dedicated to Saints Fabiano and Sebastiano, is considered the oldest oratory in the area and is mentioned as early as 1212. The oratory dedicated to Saint Antonino Martire was built in the 12th century and contains a cycle of frescoes created around 1450 by an unknown artist. The Church of Montespecchio is first mentioned in a document from 1276.
The Battle of Montese left remnants of trenches, observation posts and shelters built by both armies. Remnants of the Gothic Line can be seen on Monte Belvedere, at Lastra Bianca and on Monte Terminale di Iola.
Wooded Area and Trails
Montese lies in a predominantly wooded area rich in forage-growing land. The many trails in the Montese area can be explored on foot, by mountain bike, e-bike or horseback.
A hiking trail approximately 48 km long leads from Casona di Marano through Montese to Monte Belvedere and can be covered on foot, horseback or by bicycle.

The route can be divided up differently depending on whether you travel on foot, by mountain bike, e-bike or horseback. Patata di Montese is distinguished by a distinctive flavor shaped by the characteristics of the growing areas. It also has a long shelf life without chemical treatment.
