Historic Buildings and Local History
The monumental Scalinata was built in 1933–34 along the former route between Lama Bassa and Lama Alta and was completely redesigned between 2017 and 2019. Lama Mocogno is also home to the Torre di Montecenere, a defensive tower dating from the 13th century. The tower houses a permanent exhibition on the Montecuccoli feudal family and was restored in 1998. In Pianorso, the Church of Saints Peter and Paul is considered a 17th-century church. The existence of the church of “S. Thome de Lama” has been documented since 1220.
Woodland, Rock Formation and Protected Area
The Ponte del Diavolo is a 33-metre-long and 3-metre-high sandstone formation in dense woodland. Erosion and weathering have shaped the rock into an arch that can be walked across along its length. The Natura 2000 site IT4040005 “Alpesigola, Sasso Tignoso e Monte Cantiere” also includes the municipality of Lama Mocogno. In the surrounding area, the Centro Fondo Lama Mocogno has more than 40 kilometres of cross-country ski trails.
Paths, Winter Sports and Leisure
The Via Vandelli passes through Lama Mocogno via Montecenere; its historic route then continues to La Santona. Around the Centro Fondo Lama Mocogno, weekly day trips and, during the full moon, night-time snowshoe hikes are organised. For a different kind of leisure experience, the Centro “Le Piscine” is located in an extensive green area near the town centre and includes three swimming pools. The centre also has two bars with tables and chairs, a large sandy beach area, a children's playground, a beach-volleyball court, a multi-purpose court for tennis and football, table tennis and a large fitness area.
Events and Specialities
The open-air theatre “La Rotonda” is suitable for dance evenings, cabaret, theatre, concerts and discussions; its renovation was completed in 2008. On the first weekend of October, the town hosts the “Parmigiano Reggiano da gustare” festival. The focus is on Parmigiano Reggiano produced by local dairies, complemented by traditional customs, games and other activities. A culinary speciality of the mountain region is Croccante artigianale del Frignano, a traditional sweet that is still prepared according to a time-honoured recipe.
