From the Clearing to the Summit
The route from Signatico reaches the Madrale clearing at an elevation of 1,087 metres. It passes through Costa dei Morti before reaching Monte Montagnana. The ascent from Signatico reaches the summit of Monte Montagnana at an elevation of 1,315 metres. The Madrale clearing therefore lies before the summit of Monte Montagnana and represents an earlier high point along the route. Those wishing to organise a hike according to terrain and elevation can use the two elevations to plan their day. Anyone planning to go as far as Madrale will reach the summit only later on via Costa dei Morti.
Forest and Waypoints
On the descent from Monte Montagnana, the route passes through a forest with hollows known as “le ghiacciaie di Maria Luigia”. On the return journey from Monte Montagnana, the route passes through Il Corno. After the summit, the return therefore consists of a section through the forest followed by the route through Il Corno. For planning the day, this sequence of ascent, descent and return provides a simple division of time. Those planning the route in stages can treat the forest and Il Corno as separate parts of the return journey.
Oratory, Mill and Parish
Near the summit of Monte Montagnana there is a stone oratory, reached via a route from Signatico. The Mulino di Signatico is a two-storey stone building. The parish of Signatico is dedicated to Saint Bartholomew (San Bartolomeo).
