Perticara combines nature experiences at Monte Aquilone with a strong, tangible connection to its mining past. Activity and Views at Monte Aquilone

The Skypark in Perticara offers outdoor adventures and sporting activities on courses set among tall, old trees at Monte Aquilone. The facility brings movement to the landscape and appeals to travelers who want to shape their stay not only around sightseeing but also around sporting activities.

Perticara has signposted trails through the Perticara, Pincio and Aquilone mountains for hiking and mountain biking. Another option is CAI Trail 096, which leads to the summit of Monte Aquilone, offering wide views across much of the Valmarecchia. Perticara also has a hang-gliding launch site and offers climbing opportunities on natural rock faces. This makes it possible to combine different forms of active engagement with the landscape without having to commit to just one type of trip.

Mining History in Museums and Places of Remembrance

The Church of Santa Barbara in Miniera was built by the miners themselves as a votive offering to protect the workers. Its origins are directly linked to work in the mine and to the religious life of the miners. At the Museo Minerario in Perticara, an educational mine with a scenographically reconstructed tunnel illustrates the sequence of mining techniques in a realistic underground setting.

The installation Luoghi Minimi, based on an idea by Tonino Guerra, also adds a cultural highlight. It is located in the forest on the eastern slope of Monte Aquilone near Perticara. From the Sky Parc, it can be reached via a footpath involving a descent of approximately 20 minutes. The combination of forest, art installation and mountain landscape makes this place a distinctive cultural experience within the area around Perticara.

The Museo di Informatica e Storia del Calcolo, a museum, is also located near Perticara. This broadens the cultural scope beyond mining, landscape and local memory to include the history of computing and calculation.

Traditions and Regional Excursion Destinations

The traditional Ferragosto celebrations in Perticara combine the Feast of the Assumption with remembrance of miners who lost their lives while working in Europe's largest sulfur mine. This combination of religious celebration and mining remembrance gives the event a distinctive local character. For excursions on two wheels, Perticara is also a stop on the 130-kilometer motorcycle route “Alla scoperta del formaggio di fossa.”
