Metalworking and Bicycles
The Museo dell’Arte Fabbrile e delle Coltellerie collection comprises around 10,000 tangible and intangible historical and scientific objects and is owned by the municipality of Maniago. The museum is located in the former large industrial complex of Co.Ri.Ca.Ma. (Coltellerie Riunite di Caslino e Maniago), which began operations in 1907. The exhibition tour traces the history of metalworking in Maniago, from the first water-powered forges on the channel diverted from the Cólvera stream in 1453 to modern-day industry and metalworking. In a former knife forge, Ruote al Lavoro displays more than 150 bicycles from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Architecture and Castle History
The Duomo di San Mauro, dedicated to the holy martyr San Mauro, is a late Gothic example of Friulian architecture and was built in 1488. The Centro Visite del Castello di Maniago is an additional multifunctional space for educational, cultural and tourism offerings designed to communicate, enhance and promote the history of the castle and the area.
Monte Jouf and Historic Routes
A walk of around ten minutes from the centre of Maniago leads to the ruins of Castello di Maniago on Colle di San Giacomo. As part of the “Curati con Stile” project, 29 different routes to the summit of Monte Jouf were marked out. The short route to the castle ruins and the marked routes to the summit have different focal points: local history in one case, and the mountain landscape in the other.
Mountain biking, trekking, downhill cycling, Nordic walking and trail running can be enjoyed on the slopes of Monte Jouf. In Andreis, Barcis and Maniago, “Par Crous” refers to following the ancient mule track over Forcella La Croce, which connected Valcellina with the Maniago plain. Alongside sporting activities, historic route connections are therefore also among the themes that shape Maniago.
Pitina and Coltello in Festa
Maniago also has a clear regional culinary identity: Maniago is one of the mountain municipalities authorised to produce Pitina. Since 2002, Coltello in Festa has celebrated Maniago’s blacksmithing tradition, and in 2026 its 22nd edition was announced for 29 and 30 August. Exhibitions by master knife makers, guided tours discovering old and new customs, and specialities for tasting were planned.

Maniago can be reached daily by the Treno+Bici service on the Sacile–Maniago railway line. When choosing a hotel, you can therefore consider whether cultural sites in Maniago or activities on the slopes of Monte Jouf are your priority.
