If you would like to combine historic sites and trails in Colloredo di Monte Albano, you will find several clearly distinct points of interest here. The Castello di Colloredo di Monte Albano dates back to the 14th century. In the hamlet of Mels within the municipality, the remains of the Castello di Mels are visible; it was built between 1027 and 1045. The Chiesa dei Santi Andrea e Mattia also reflects the history of the area: the church was built between 1326 and 1330 by the Colloredo Mels family as the church of the Castello di Colloredo. The visible remains in Mels therefore extend beyond the main castle and further anchor the castle’s history within the municipality.

Churches and historic buildings

The religious buildings date from different periods. The Chiesetta di San Martino in Caporiacco was completed in 1642 and consecrated in 1653. The Chiesa di San Pietro contains frescoes from the 13th to the 15th century that were discovered during restoration work. The religious buildings can therefore be associated with different interests: San Martino with its construction and consecration history, and San Pietro with the frescoes discovered during restoration work. The individual dates help you distinguish the buildings chronologically without reducing them to a single period.

La Torate and the Castello di Colloredo

La Torate is the reconstructed watchtower of a former castle. Access is via a safe interior iron staircase. The west wing of the Castello di Colloredo di Monte Albano has another specific function: it is the seat of the Comunità Collinare del Friuli. These two details illustrate different aspects of the historic buildings – here, a reconstructed watchtower with described access, and there, a building section that is still in use today.

Routes for cycling, horseback riding and walking

Away from the buildings, the options can also be organized according to your preferred way of getting around. The Strada dei castelli e dei sapori begins next to the clock tower of the Castello di Colloredo di Monte Albano. On the Anello dei castelli medioevali (R036) loop, this Castello is the first castle you encounter. The Ippovia Valle del Cormor also runs through the municipality as an unpaved route. It can be used on horseback, by mountain bike and on foot. If you are planning your route around castles, the loop offers a different point of orientation from the unpaved route, which can be used on horseback, by mountain bike and on foot.

Summer music in the castle courtyard

In summer, the “Tango da pensare” music series takes place in the courtyard of the Castello di Colloredo di Monte Albano. When choosing your travel interests, you can therefore distinguish between churches and castles, a route by bicycle or on foot, using the Ippovia Valle del Cormor on horseback, and music in the castle courtyard.
