Lignano Pineta: Spiral Layout, Parks and a Walk Above the Water

A Spiral-Shaped Urban Plan

Lignano Pineta is characterised by an urban layout in the shape of a spiral. The green-embedded layout was created by architect Marcello D’Olivo, who designed Lignano Pineta in 1953. At the centre, the design provides for a concentration of shops and services as well as plenty of greenery. The spiral shape provides a spatial guiding line for a walk. Church, Square and Urban Concept

The Cristo Redentore church is integrated into Lignano Pineta’s characteristic urban design and faces Piazza Rosa dei Venti from the centre of the spiral. The exterior of the church was completed in 1971; its design apparently recalls fishermen’s huts. For an architectural walk, the church can therefore also be viewed in terms of its location at the centre of the spiral. Those interested in its resemblance to fishermen’s huts can consider the exterior from this perspective.

Nature and Art in Parco del Mare

Parco del Mare is located between Viale a Mare and Lungomare Alberto Kechler, 33054 Lignano Pineta (UD). Its green area is suitable for long walks and spending time in nature. The park displays works by Simon Benetton and Luciano Ceschia, as well as works by all the artists who took part in the ten editions of the “Simposio internazionale di scultura su pietra di Aurisina” held from 2001 to 2010. A Walk Above the Water and Aquasplash

Festa delle Cape originated in 1984 from an idea by several professional fishermen. Those interested in local history can use the professional fishermen as a starting point at this festival.
