Lischiazze – Trails, Waterfall and Forest

The hamlet of Lischiazze is connected to the valley floor by the old “Itinerario Lischiazze – Torrente Barman – Gost”. The Fontanone Barman waterfall is located nearby. The waterfall plunges about 70 m into a blue pool carved out of the rock. This means that the area around the hamlet combines an old connection to the valley floor with a stretch of water featuring a pronounced drop.

Ancient Connections between Gost, Lischiazze and the Valley Floor

After passing through the Gost district, the “Ta Stara Pot” trail descends to the hamlet of Lischiazze. Another connection is provided by the “Way of the Ancient Glaciers”. From Gniva, this trail reaches Lischiazze about 30 minutes after the start. In the opposite direction, the same trail leads from Lischiazze for about 4 km and 1.5 hours to Sella Carnizza. Starting from Gniva, Lischiazze is initially on the route; from Lischiazze, the section to Sella Carnizza begins. The approximately 30 minutes to the hamlet and the approximately 4 km taking 1.5 hours to Sella Carnizza are consecutive trail sections of different lengths. Those planning the route in stages can separate the start in Gniva from the continuation of the trail from Lischiazze.

Water, Rock and the Rio Barman

Behind Lischiazze, a car park provides access to CAI Trail No. 703 towards the Rio-Nero Valley and to the Fontanone Barman. The Rio Barman rises at the Fontanone Barman. From there, it flows through a narrow valley towards the Resia River. The trail access behind Lischiazze therefore leads towards the Rio-Nero Valley, while the watercourse begins at the waterfall and then continues through the narrow valley to the Resia River.

Climbing Route and Mountain Hut

For climbing enthusiasts, the Via Alberto Colavizza runs for almost 400 m on solid rock and mainly offers slab climbing. The route therefore focuses clearly on rock and climbing technique. In addition, the “Ricovero Casera Rio Nero” serves as a two-storey mountain hut. Its facilities include several sleeping places and a wood-burning stove. The hut is currently always open. The route and the shelter thus represent two different ways of spending time on the rock: climbing along a long stretch of rock and staying in a hut with sleeping places and a wood-burning stove.

Forest Products and Traditional Cuisine

The “Sentiero del gusto” introduces forest products such as mushrooms, fruit and wild herbs, which enrich traditional cuisine. The trail follows the municipal road towards Lischiazze and passes through tall beech forests. Along this section, the forest products used in traditional cuisine are combined with a trail running along the municipal road and through the beech forest. The Sentiero del gusto thus leads into a different landscape and thematic area from the water feature at the Fontanone Barman or the rock route of the Via Alberto Colavizza.
