Tissano is an interesting destination if you want to discover Italian local history not just through a single building, but through its various layers. Villa Strassoldo-Agricola-Del Torso was first built in the 16th century and completely remodelled in the Venetian villa style by the Agricola family in the 18th century. The church of San Michele Arcangelo provides a particularly clear example of the connection between art and architectural history. It houses an altarpiece by Giovanni Pietro Coda from the 17th century, which was restored by Giuliano Mauroner in 1900. A section of the medieval Centa enclosure, which once surrounded the entire building, is still preserved on the north side of the church. Near the parish church, on Piazza F. Mauroner, there is also a 17th-century public stone fountain, which was recently enhanced with cobblestone paving.

One of the area’s distinctive buildings is Villa Mauroner, an 18th-century complex built on top of older structures. It consists of the main building, the Foledors with two round-arched stone portals, and a courtyard of honour enclosed by a wall with a stone portal. This architectural range is complemented by the Palazzo rosso: the Neo-Romanesque building has two towers and was built onto older rural buildings.

Carnival and Friulian Cuisine
