Castelletto Sopra Ticino is situated on a moraine hill on the Piedmontese shore of Lago Maggiore, where the lake flows into the Ticino River.
Landscape between lake and river
The Piedmontese Parco Naturale del Ticino extends from Lago Maggiore towards Lombardy and includes part of the Castelletto Sopra Ticino area.
The Miorina cycle and footpath shows how you can actively explore this landscape: the route runs through the Parco del Ticino. From there, you can continue along the Piedmontese cycle path to the municipality of Cerano. You can also plan a walk along Via Vernome on the riverbank. This allows you to choose between a bike ride and a walk by the water.
Churches, oratories and religious art
The Parrocchia di Sant'Antonio Abate is the parish church of Castelletto Sopra Ticino and is dedicated to Saint Anthony the Great. In the hamlet of Glisente stands the Chiesa di Sant'Ippolito, the parish church of the hamlet. It is dedicated to Saint Hippolytus, a martyr and warrior of the 3rd century. Saint Hippolytus is celebrated in the hamlet of Glisente on 13 August.
The Oratorio S. Anna stands at the intersection of Via S. Carlo and Via Cavour and is therefore also known as the Oratorio di San Carlo. It dates from around 1470. The Nativity is depicted above the altar; Saint Joseph is shown on the left, and Mary adoring the Child on the right. Santa is associated with daily access from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Santa Maria d'Egro offers free daily access from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., which is also accessible to people with disabilities. The presbytery contains restored frescoes from the 17th century. They depict scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary and representations of prophets. Access to Castello Viscontesco, on the other hand, is only possible by prior arrangement with the owners. For planning purposes, these destinations therefore differ significantly in their respective access conditions.
Archaeology and family excursions
The municipal park of Castelletto Sopra Ticino contains an archaeological area with the remains of burial grounds of the Golasecca culture, found on site and dating from the 8th century BC. Another link between the landscape and the region's past is the Peschiera di San Maurizio: it is a traditional eel trap in the shallow waters of the Ticino and is considered a monument to the material culture of the Ticino and Lago Maggiore.
Gottard Park is a museum park for transport vehicles with an equipped children's play area.
Connections across the lake
Boat services between Castelletto Sopra Ticino and Sesto Calende were expected to resume from Wednesday, 10 June 2026; a journey cost 1.50 euros. When planning a connection across Lago Maggiore, this time-specific information is one of the concrete details of your stay.
