The church’s presbytery preserves the white marble sarcophagus of Briobris Di Vico. Together with the building’s great age, the frescoes and the tuff-stone work, it presents a multifaceted picture of sacred architecture, making different periods visible in a single building.

Town Hall, Marble and Frescoes

Vetralla’s town hall also leads into the history of the town. The architect Barigioni built it between 1731 and 1735. The first floor contains Roman and medieval marble works. The town hall also preserves frescoes, particularly in the present-day waiting room. Vetralla’s town hall is affiliated with the Network of Lazio Historic Houses.

Museum and Ruins on the Outskirts

The Museo della Città del Territorio focuses on smaller settlements as well as on the urban-planning and architectural traditions of Tuscia. It thus turns attention to the development of places and to the forms in which regional history is reflected in buildings and settlement structures.

On the outskirts of Vetralla, a short detour leads to the ruins of the Pieve di Santa Maria di Forcassi. This site adds another surviving testimony from the history of the surrounding area to the visit to the church, town hall and museum.

At the beginning of December, Vetralla also hosts the Sagra del Tozzetto. During Lo Sposalizio dell’Albero, the mayor of Vetralla says “I do” in front of a tall Turkey oak in the Selva del Fogliano; this tradition has existed for at least five centuries.
