Between the village centre and the upper valley

Boscomare brings together several points of interest for planning your trip: a medieval village layout, public art, a lavender tradition that has developed over centuries, and a landscape of olive trees, herb cultivation and woodland. At the heart of Boscomare’s medieval village layout is the parish church of San Bernardo Abate, situated at the edge of a small square. The Torre anti-barbaresca of Boscomare was probably built between the end of the 15th century and the beginning of the 16th century and has a circular ground plan. Both buildings are therefore specific points of reference where the historic character of the village can be understood.

The Oratorio della Santissima Annunziata in Boscomare adds another historic facet. The oratory is generally attributed to the 17th and 18th centuries. A walk through Boscomare thus offers a picture in which different periods meet within the village, without the individual buildings losing their own historical context.

Art among lanes and squares

The BoscomArte murals extend between Via XX Settembre and Via XXV Aprile. Here, art can be encountered along specific streets rather than only in a single building. The small squares and widened viewpoints inside and outside the village walls also feature permanent polychrome metal sculptures. Among them is the group Don Chisciotte from 2015.

Lavender cultivation was a tradition in the area for centuries, particularly in the Boscomare district. Together with the murals and metal sculptures, this theme offers an approach to a local cultural landscape in which historical references and visible design coexist within the village setting.

Museums in the surrounding area

If you would like to complement your stay with further cultural themes, the museums in the area around Boscomare include the Historical Institute for the Resistance, the Pinacoteca Civica and the Naval Museum of West Liguria. The Pagliari Palace is one of the palaces in the same area. Landscape and circular trail

Boscomare lies among silver-leaved olive trees, fields cultivated with aromatic herbs and occasional lavender patches in the shady woodland of the upper valley. The Anello di Boscomare circular trail begins at the car park opposite the Boscomare bus stop on Via Provinciale. For planning purposes, this means that exploring the village and taking a hike can be considered separate focuses of a stay.
