Mendatica is located in the Parco Naturale Regionale delle Alpi Liguri. The town lies at the foot of Monte Frontè and combines a mountain landscape with insights into the history and everyday culture of the community. If you would like to bring together nature, trails, local traditions and different leisure interests during your trip to Italy, Mendatica offers several clearly distinct points of interest for this.

Landscape at Monte Frontè

The character of the landscape becomes particularly tangible at Monte Frontè: the mountain is a peak in the vicinity of Mendatica, and Mendatica lies at its foot. The northern slope of Monte Frontè is covered with pastures, rhododendrons and larch stands; its southwestern side is rocky and very steep. Monte Mònega, a mountain, is also located nearby. Monte Bellarasco is another peak in the vicinity of Mendatica. This creates a landscape characterized not only by mountain ranges, but also by clearly differing forms of vegetation and terrain.

Circular Trail and Nature Experience

The Mendatica – Cascate dell’Arroscia – Case Pian del Lago – Mendatica circular trail is classified as a difficulty E trail. Its total duration is 4 hours, and the elevation difference is +372 m/-372 m. The classification, total duration and separately indicated ascent and descent figures provide you with concrete parameters for planning the timing of a hike. The route passes through several named points, but you should not equate it with a simple walk.

Traditions and Museums

The „Civiltà delle Malghe“ area displays a collection of everyday objects from the past of the Mendatica community, reconstructs in detail living environments from the period of transhumance and includes the restoration of the adjacent farmyard, „Ca' di Picchi“. The open-air museum of Mendatica is located in a typical Carruggio. Information panels there provide details about traditions and legends, the processing of milk into cheese, and the routes of transhumance. At the Museo Faunistico in Mendatica, you can see specimens of the local wildlife, including some that are difficult to observe in the wild.

Leisure, Festivals and Local Cuisine

In addition to the adventure park, the „Le Canalette“ park includes a playground, a football field, a volleyball court and a tennis court, a bocce court, a roller-skating rink, a mini-zoo, an equipped barbecue area and paths. The different facilities give the park a versatile character that combines sport, play, animals and relaxation. At the traditional festivals in Mendatica, including the „La Cucina Bianca“ day in August, you can sample typical dishes. Various events also take place throughout the year.
