Framura: Coast, Art and Historic Paths

Framura appeals to travellers who want to combine the sea, outdoor activities and local history in a single stay. Along the coast of Framura, bathing platforms lie between red rocks. The coast and historic sites therefore offer two different ways to experience this Italian destination.

Coast, Coves and the Old Railway Line

The Porticciolo Turistico di Framura is a starting point for exploring the coast. Numerous coves are accessible exclusively from the sea. Experienced divers can explore wrecks on the seabed off Framura. The coastal area therefore caters to different interests: you can discover the coves from the water or experience the underwater world as a focus in its own right if you have the necessary experience.

The Ciclopedonale Maremonti follows the route of the old railway. The approximately six-kilometre route provides a level, safe connection for families, pedestrians and cyclists. It passes through old railway tunnels; along the route are open spaces facing the sea and access points to several coastal coves. This makes it possible to combine exercise, historic railway relics and views of the sea along a single stretch of path.

Art in Churches

In Castagnola, the Chiesa di San Lorenzo Martire is an old parish church dating from the 13th century. It houses a significant “Deposizione” by Luca Cambiaso. Here, the site combines an old ecclesiastical building with a specific work of art.

Bernardo Strozzi’s “Madonna del Rosario con i Santi Domenico e Carlo Borromeo” is located in the Chiesa di San Martino.

Historic Traces in Costa

The watchtower in Costa is a building from the Carolingian period and dates from the 9th century. At the end of Costa’s Carruggio stands an Ospitale di Framura. On its façade, an inscription in Carolingian script bears the date 27 December 1400 and attributes the building to Giuliano de Dugo. Costa therefore focuses on buildings and dates from different historical periods.

Paths with Different Rhythms

Sentiero 650 is well marked and climbs steadily. From the central area of Setta, the route takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes. It is therefore suited to a short uphill walk and clearly differs in terms of its physical profile from the level Ciclopedonale Maremonti. If you like to organise your days according to route length and physical demands, Framura offers two distinctly different options here.

An Announced Family Event

The Festa di San Rocco in Framura includes the traditional “Giochi di San Rocco”. This includes an outdoor afternoon of games and entertainment for children aged two and over in the Piazzetta di Setta. The event is scheduled for Sunday, 16 August, at 3:30 p.m. Families can therefore add an explicitly child-focused programme item to the themes of landscapes, paths and culture.
