Bardineto combines history with a landscape where karst, forests and mountain trails come together. The “Del Carretto” Castle and Bardineto’s first fortified village were built around the 13th century by the Del Carretto marquises. The castle can be reached via the Via Romana. Culture in the Town

The Museo antropologico permanente is dedicated to traditional tools and rural crafts. It displays thousands of rustic implements, most of which come from the Val Bormida and are arranged in more than 400 original groupings. These illustrate aspects of everyday life and predominantly agricultural work before industrialisation. Karst Trails and Caves

The second geological trail for discovering Bardineto’s karst features and caves is approximately 2.5 kilometres long, can be completed entirely on foot, has an elevation gain of 65 metres and is explained by nine information boards. It reaches the upper entrance of the Buranco di Bardineto. The first geological trail leads back to Piazza Vittorio Veneto in Bardineto. The Buranco comprises a total of approximately 2 kilometres of passages and galleries arranged on several levels above an underground stream. It is considered the largest cave in the Val Bormida and one of Liguria’s most interesting karst complexes; it also contains significant prehistoric evidence.

Longer Trails in the Mountain Landscape

For an extended tour, Sentiero no. 1 is available. It is 22 kilometres long, takes 8 hours and 30 minutes, has a difficulty rating of I and is suitable for mountain bikes. The trail runs along the southeastern edge of Bardineto’s municipal territory, follows the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri and partly passes through the municipalities of Erli and Castelvecchio. It heads towards Monte Carmo, where extensive views over the Riviera Ligure can be enjoyed.

Sentiero no. 2 leads from Bardineto via Ca' Du Piccu, Cormore, Piaggia Scura and Prato Cuneo to Monte Agnellino. The route is 9 kilometres long, takes 3 hours and 30 minutes, has a difficulty rating of MD and is suitable for mountain bikes. In connection with this trail, a path leads into the Acquetta forests and follows the course of the Rio Secco from above. A short climb on a forest track branches off towards Lago Rotondo, a water-filled karst sinkhole.

A Selection of Hiking and Cycling Routes

Route 4 leads from Bardineto via Località Crosa, Pianfieno and Catalano. It is 6 kilometres long, takes 2 hours and 30 minutes, has a difficulty rating of M and is suitable for mountain bikes. Another landscape highlight is Colle Scravaion, an 814-metre-high pass in the Ligurian Alps in the Province of Savona, connecting Bardineto with Castelvecchio di Rocca Barbena. Colle Scravaion can be reached via the main road within Bardineto’s municipal territory. Its area is appreciated by hikers and cyclists for its beautiful views and expansive panoramas.
