Monte Poieto and Cornagera as a Trail Landscape

Monte Poieto is reached at an elevation of 1,360 metres and offers forests, meadows and views over the valley below. From Aviatico, it can be reached via numerous hiking trails and by a lift that leads directly to the summit. The Aviatico–Monte Poieto route starts in Aviatico and ends at Monte Poieto; it is accessible by car via the SP35 Bergamo–Nembro, the SP36 Cantul and the SP31 Aviatico, as well as by bus from Bergamo via Nembro to Aviatico.

Trails with Different Profiles

The CAI trail 516 was extended from Forca d'Aviatico to Monte Poieto in 2021. The CAI trail 521 reaches the church square in Ganda; the CAI trail 521A is approximately 1.6 kilometres long, climbs 250 metres in elevation and takes about 45 minutes. These different details help you distinguish trails by length, elevation gain and destination.

The Cornagera–Monte Poieto circular hike begins near Aviatico's car park and follows trail 537 via Ama towards Monte Cornagera and Monte Poieto. The trail through the Cornagera labyrinth connects CAI trails 537 and 521 and leads to the summit of Cornagera at an elevation of 1,311 metres. On the route through the Cornagera area lies the Büs de la Carolina, a narrow passage between high rock walls. The rock towers of Cornagera offer sport-climbing routes ranging from easy grades to grade 6c. Whether you want to hike or climb, this gives you clearly distinguishable trail, elevation and rock destinations.

Sacred Places and Works of Art

The San Rocco Temple in Aviatico dates back to 1632 and was built as a vow by survivors of the plague following the 1630 outbreak. At the summit of Monte Poieto stands a chapel dedicated to the Madonna della Neve, also known as Madonna di Poieto. On the southern slopes of Monte Poieto, at an elevation of approximately 1,200 metres in Ganda, a hamlet of Aviatico, is the Osservatorio Astronomico delle Prealpi Orobiche.

The parish church of San Bernardino da Siena in Amora stands on an elevated church square known as the Belvedere. The church contains paintings entitled "The Last Supper", "Madonna del Carmine", "The Fall of the Manna" and "The Sacrifice of Isaac". The Church of San Salvatore and the Transfiguration in Ama houses a polyptych by Giovanni Giacomo Gavasio as well as a wooden statue of the Madonna delle Convulsioni from the 18th century by an unknown sculptor. In Ganda, one church has a façade with six niches containing painted depictions of Mary and Saints Anthony the Abbot, Joseph, Roch, Peter and Paul. Aviatico also has a sacred site with a painting of Saint Francis of Assisi attributed to Giovan Battista Moroni.
