Chiuduno between Mountain Landscapes and Architectural History

Chiuduno lies on the southern slopes of Monte Santo Stefano. Next to Chiuduno's parish church stands an imposing bell tower, built entirely of dressed stone between 1745 and 1755. Castello di Chiuduno stands on elevated ground above the San Michele district, considered the oldest part of the settlement.

Chiesa di San Michele probably dates from the 10th or 11th century. Inside is a central altarpiece depicting the Assumption, dating from 1652. Construction of Chiesa parrocchiale Santa Maria Assunta began in 1710; the building was demonstrably completed by 1732. The interior consists of a central nave and two side aisles. During a culturally focused visit, you can therefore include both the presumed early origins of San Michele and the architecture and furnishings of the parish church.

Architectural points of interest can also be found beyond the ecclesiastical focus: Cascina Suardo in the Monte di Chiuduno area dates from the 16th century and has unrendered natural-stone walls. Palazzo Suardo di Cicola is an 18th-century building with a U-shaped floor plan, a portico and loggias.
