Churches and sacred architectural forms

San Pantaleone combines sacred architecture with vineyards and hill paths in the surrounding area. At the Chiesa di San Pantaleone, a renovation from the 18th century can be identified. This is indicated by the shape and size of the interior pillars, as well as by elements visible on the exterior sides.

The space and façade of the Chiesa

Inside, shallow arches on T-shaped pillars divide the space into three naves. The shape of the pillars thus links the architectural renovation with the layout of the interior.

The façade of the Chiesa is divided into two levels. The lower level contains a portico divided into three sections by columns with an entablature, set on a continuous base, while the choir loft is located on the upper level. The Oratory of San Pantaleone, dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, is dated to 1703. This year adds a second specific date to the sacred heritage, complementing the 18th-century renovation.

The vineyards and hills of Grumello

From the Rillo footbridge, the hills of Grumello in the surrounding area are considered to follow an almost semicircular course, from the Boldesico valley plain to San Pantaleone. The Boldesico valley plain and San Pantaleone form the two reference points of this semicircular extent. The hilly landscape around Grumello is almost entirely covered with vineyards. Rows of vines and open slopes shape the landscape around the town. The open slopes and rows of vines define the transition between the hills and the vineyards.

The “Anello colline di Grumello” circular trail

The “Anello colline di Grumello” circular trail reaches the Chiesa di San Pantaleone as one of its stages and offers views of the vineyards of Val Calepio. Between the vineyards, the path descends to the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Boldesico. The trail also includes the steep ascent from Grumello to Chiesa San Pantaleone. The route is recommended in a counterclockwise direction because this avoids the ascent.

The senses and grape harvest at La Cà Rossa

At La Cà Rossa, a sensory trail leads through nature and engages all five senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. In autumn, La Cà Rossa’s educational program includes the seasonal activity “Uva e creatività”, with grape harvesting, grape pressing and art. The reference to autumn provides a clear point of reference for planning the timing.

The activities begin at the 18th-century Chiesetta di San Pantaleone, a few hundred metres from La Cà Rossa, and continue with a short walk through the woods. The woodland walk is spatially connected to the starting point.
