Urgnano between Rocca Albani and Parco del Serio

The Torre Campanaria, Rocca Albani and Chiesa della Santissima Trinità offer different ways to explore architecture and sacred art. This allows you to structure your stay around architecture, sacred art and nature.

Architecture with clear historical references

Within the complex of Chiesa dei Santi Nazario e Celso, the bell tower is attributed to Luigi Cagnola as its designer. The Torre Campanaria is a work by the neoclassical architect Luigi Cagnola dating from 1829. At 54 metres high and built from Ceppo gentile, a stone from Brembate, it also has clearly identifiable architectural features. The date, material and proportions provide you with a concrete insight into Urgnano’s architectural history.

The Chiesa della Santissima Trinità contains two fresco cycles that cover the entire church building. If you would like to combine sacred art and architecture, this church complements the exploration of the Torre Campanaria with a focus clearly directed towards the interior spaces.

Rocca Albani and the Festa in Rocca

Rocca Albani has a hanging garden with nine caricature-like dwarf statues. Its surrounding wall features an original Ghibelline crenellation. The contrast between the formally designed top of the wall and the unusual figures in the garden makes the complex an independent part of the town’s history, which you can take into account when planning your cultural itinerary.

A clearly defined example of the historical staging of local history was the Festa in Rocca “Colleoni il Grande Condottiero”. The 43rd edition took place between 3 and 13 July 2025 at the Rocca di Urgnano and recreated the figure of the famous condottiero and his era. The programme included historical processions and guided tours of the Rocca with live scenes and holographic projections.

Parco del Serio and the Basella district

Basella, a district of Urgnano, is part of the protected Parco del Serio. In the landscape around the Serio River, agricultural land, meadows and small wooded areas alternate. As a result, the area around Urgnano has a different character from its historic buildings: the impression is shaped not by individual monuments but by the changing landscape elements. When planning your trip, you can take both the historic buildings and the surrounding landscape into account.

The approximately 2-kilometre combined cycle and footpath U.Ella connects the historic village of Urgnano with the Basella district and runs along Parco del Serio. Its approximate length gives you a rough framework for planning your day. The path thus connects Urgnano with its Basella district.
