Town history in museums and notable places

Treviglio combines religious history, museums and routes through the town with themes relating to agriculture and nature. The Santuario della Beata Vergine delle Lacrime was built between 1594 and 1619 and is a constant point of reference for Marian devotion and a miraculous event. This is where an exploration of Treviglio begins, in a place where architectural history and religious significance are closely intertwined.

History to see and discover

In the Torre Civica, the Museo Storico Verticale takes visitors interactively and multimedia through Treviglio’s history across seven floors. La Porta del Cielo offers a different approach to art and sacred history. Opened in February 2024, this exhibition and museum venue is home in particular to the Polittico di San Martino, created in the 15th century by Bernardino Butinone and Bernardo Zenale.

La Porta del Cielo is also accessible to visitors with mobility impairments; a lift provides access to the upper floor of the Sala dei Confratelli. At the Museo Civico “Ernesto e Teresa Della Torre”, the presentation focuses on seven centuries of art history in a single room. On display are works by artists from across Europe, as well as representatives of numerous artistic forms and movements.

The Museo Scientifico Explorazione has more than 60 interactive stations, most of which focus on physics. They complement the art and town history museums with a focus on natural sciences.

Archaeology, agriculture and routes outdoors

The Museo Archeologico displays archaeological finds from the Treviglio area and reconstructs a Gallo-Roman tomb discovered in Treviglio’s historic centre. The Museo SAME explores the development of agricultural mechanisation through historical models, prototypes and archival documents. The Agrimuseo Orizzontale focuses on the history of agriculture and the area’s farming traditions.

For a walk, you can circle Treviglio’s historic centre along the route of the former town walls. The recreational area of Parco del Roccolo can be used freely, with opening hours varying according to the season.

There is also a clearly defined point of reference for cycling tourism. Cycling routes run along the nearby Adda River in the area around Treviglio and are easily accessible from Treviglio. For arriving by train, Treviglio railway station has a total of 11 tracks for passenger services.
