Villassio combines insights into mining history with churches and panoramic views across the valley to Monte Alben. For trip planning, the village can therefore be explored through specific cultural experiences, historic sites and an excursion into the surrounding area.

Mining History at the Ecomuseo

The Ecomuseo delle miniere di Gorno is located in the Polo socioculturale “Contrada Villassio”. Its offerings include the Museo delle Miniere, with a collection of materials from Gorno’s mining world. You can also watch historic film footage about mining activities there. This allows you to encounter the working world and history of mining not only through objects, but also through moving images.

The Ecomuseo delle miniere di Gorno also offers an approximately one-and-a-half-hour guided underground tour through the old mines of “Costa Jels-imbocco Serpenti”. The tour shifts the focus from the materials and film footage preserved in the museum to the specific historic site of the old mines. It thus leads into a specific historic site, while the museum preserves the materials and film footage relating to the mining world. For visitors who would like to explore the local industrial history in greater depth, this creates a clear focus for their stay.

A Route with Interactive Stations

The Costa Jels-imbocco Serpenti route includes interactive stations as well as a small mine called “Galecc”. It is designed with wooden equipment and intended for children up to 8 years old. Thus, alongside its historical connection, the route also includes a specifically designated section for younger visitors.

Churches and Views over the Valley

Villassio is home to the parish church of San Martino Vescovo di Tours. It is dedicated to Saint Martin, Bishop of Tours. The new parish church was built from 13 July 1931 onwards and consecrated on 23 October 1932.

The church square of the parish church of San Martino Vescovo offers panoramic views over the valley and towards Monte Alben. This view complements a visit to the museum and churches with an open landscape perspective. The Church of Madonna delle Grazie is also located in Villassio, providing another place of religious significance within the village.

Excursion into the Surrounding Area

The Cascate della Val Vertova, a waterfall, are located in the area surrounding Villassio. The waterfall expands the village’s cultural focus with a natural destination in the surrounding area. If you would like to include both historical themes and landscape experiences in your trip, this natural destination can be considered independently of the sites in Villassio.
