Cultural history in the villa and churches

Villa Porro Lambertenghi was built in several phases from the 16th century onward. Another historical connection dates back to 18 January 1860: on that day, Marquis Luigi Porro Lambertenghi commissioned his son Giulio to stand in for him as a witness at the marriage of Giuseppina Raimondi and General Giuseppe Garibaldi. The history of the building and a specific event from the 19th century thus offer two different approaches to the past.

In Monticello, the Chiesa di San Rocco dates from the 18th century and was remodeled in the 20th century. It has a single rectangular nave and a bell gable. The Chiesa di San Giuseppe was decorated with frescoes by the painter Alberto Bogani in the 1990s. It also houses some liturgical furnishings from the Chiesa dei Santi Giuseppe e Maria Sposi.

The Chiesetta dei Santi Giuseppe e Maria Sposi is also one of the destination's cultural highlights: it was restored after standing unused for several years. Together with the churches in Monticello, it offers a multifaceted perspective on religious buildings, artistic design and the treatment of historic structures.

Water, woodland and short routes

The Rio Livescia rises in Monticello, flows to Boffalora, marks part of the municipal boundary, then enters the area of Fino Mornasco and eventually flows into the Torrente Lura. Historically, the Rio Livescia powered three two-winged mills.

The hills also provide a tangible connection with nature: between Bulgarograsso and Cassina Rizzardi, extending to the hamlet of Ronco Vecchio, the pedunculate oak is more prevalent. Parco del Lura offers easy walks and short cycling routes. These two aspects draw attention both to the landscape and to routes that fit into a more leisurely day plan.

EuroVelo 5 and the Cammino del Pellegrino

For cyclists, the route section from Cassina Rizzardi in the north to Garbagnate Milanese in the south is of interest: it coincides with EuroVelo 5. In addition, the Cammino del Pellegrino is a multidisciplinary trail along the course of the Torrente Lura, created as part of the environmental education activities of Parco Lura.

The Cammino del Pellegrino project resulted in a bioregional map. It brings together local traditions, the significance of place names, old recipes using herbs, flora, fauna and the landscapes of the Lura Valley.
