Dizzasco: Church, Mule Track and Art in the Village

Dizzasco displays a character in which historic village scenes, paths through the landscape and public art stand side by side. The village thus combines different facets that can be brought together when planning an individual trip.

Historic Village Centre and Parish Church

The historic centre of Dizzasco is characterised by typical rural Lombard architecture. A prominent landmark is the parish church of Santi Pietro e Paolo: this historic landmark stands on a panoramic hilltop and is decorated with paintings, frescoes, stucco and scagliola altars.

The church of Santi Pietro e Paolo lies along a medieval route that connected Lake Como with the Ceresio and the plain.

Paths through the Valley and Mill Landscape

A mule track leads from the centre of Dizzasco downhill through the Valle dei Mulini and onwards to Cerano.

In addition, the route through the Bassa Valle d’Intelvi starts and ends in Argegno and is approximately 12 kilometres long. It follows old paths and passes medieval villages, churches, sanctuaries, chapels, mills, fountains, viewpoints and picnic areas.

The Mulino dei Traversa still has its mill wheel and chimney. These two surviving elements represent the visible history of milling, which gains a distinct local connection in the area around the mule track.

Green Surroundings and Mountains

Dizzasco lies in the valley of the Torrente Telo, is surrounded by abundant greenery and offers wide-ranging panoramas. The area around Dizzasco-Biazzeno is also home to the Collezione Giancarlo e Danna Olgiati, a museum, as well as Monte Generoso, a mountain, Monte Bisbino, a peak, Cima del Costone, a peak, and Monte Brè, a mountain.

Public Art

The Invasione degli Asini project comprises permanent site-specific artworks in public spaces and has transformed Dizzasco into an open-air museum. The project’s collaboration with the community of Dizzasco and young artists can be traced back to 2007.

Invasione degli Asini is also a festival held in July. The focus is on paintings, sculptures and statues featuring donkey motifs.

Museums and Monuments in the Wider Area

The wider regional area around Dizzasco-Biazzeno is home to the Museo Moto Guzzi, a museum, the Monument of Alessandro Volta, a monument, and the Camerlata Fountain, also a monument.

A Historic Square with Traces of Local Craftsmanship

On a historic square near the washhouse, the hand-worked granite base for the wooden Torč can still be seen. This Torč is an old walnut press, meaning that a tangible detail of former local processing has been preserved at the square.
