Lurago Marinone among historic buildings and local festivals

Lurago Marinone can be explored through two particularly different facets: the Sentiero delle Uccellande and the historic sites surrounding the ancient Borgo di San Giorgio. The trail begins at the ancient Borgo di San Giorgio in the municipality of Lurago Marinone. With its two branches, it explores the landscapes in the southern part of the park and leads to the railway stations of Abbiate Guazzone (Tradate), Mozzate and Locate Varesino. At the Antico Castello di Lurago, the surviving large round-arched portal is attributed to the early 15th century.

Church and art

The new parish church continues this chronological sequence. It was not completed until the end of the 17th century. Inside is a painting of Saint Anthony of Padua with the Christ Child, created by Carlo Innocenzo Carloni between 1744 and 1747. Festivals with music and regional specialities

Every year on 1 November, roasted chestnuts, traditional dishes such as trippa and cazzuola, as well as seasonal desserts, are served in Lurago Marinone.

The Festa al Borgo combines a demonstration of historic crafts with traditional tastings from Val Cavargna; the event also includes a special opening of a museum dedicated to rural life in times gone by. Savour de Ca nostra takes place in September and brings the flavours and traditions of the area back to life. The Pro Loco's Christmas programme includes an exhibition of handmade nativity scenes in the Chiesetta di San Giorgio.
