Naggio between Lake Como, art and hiking trails

Naggio combines religious art, traces of a local artistic tradition and paths through pastures and alpine meadows. From here, you can enjoy beautiful views of Lake Como.

Churches, chapels and local art

The Chiesa di S. Antonio Abate dates back to the 15th century in its origins. The church preserves rediscovered frescoes; a Crucifixion was restored in 1988. In 1629, the church became a parish church and was consecrated in 1683.

The apse contains a triptych from the late 16th century. The scenes depict the lives of Saint Anthony, Saint Sebastian and Saint Roch; the work was created by Giovan Antonio de Rossi.

The Cappella di San Rocco is located in Località “La Comuna”, above the Naggio district. It was built in the mid-19th century during the cholera epidemics that swept across the Italian peninsula and Europe from 1830 onwards. Naggio also preserves traces of a local artistic tradition on building portals, as well as in frescoes on houses and in the lanes. The Chiesa della Madonna Addolorata houses a remarkable 17th-century collection of paintings depicting Our Lady of Sorrows, the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian and the Virgin Mary.

Paths between pastures and lime kilns

The Percorso dell'alpigiano is also known as “Alpeggi e Pascoli”. It starts in Naggio and climbs uphill to pastures and alpine meadows. These are connected by well-signposted and easy-to-walk paths. The Percorso delle Calchere e degli Orridi leads from Naggio, Località S. Rocco, to Sass Corbèe. Along this route, after about half an hour on foot, you reach the first Calchere, facilities for producing lime.

The Percorso della Geologia e dei Fossili runs between Località Spin and the coal mines. The 26-kilometre circular route “Dal Lario al Ceresio” leads from Menaggio through Grandola ed Uniti, Codogna, Velzo, Naggio, Gottro, Carlazzo, Corrido and Porlezza, before returning to Menaggio. The route to the Calchere can be planned as a separate section, with its approximate walking time. The 26-kilometre circular tour, however, requires more time to be set aside. Those who do not wish to combine the routes on the same day can plan the destinations separately and include Naggio as a reference point for both routes in their planning.

Piazzetta and musical tradition

Naggio’s central piazzetta features a fountain with statues, considered a unique example in the Grandola area. The history of the village also includes the Società Filarmonica di Naggio: the lively local ensemble provided musical accompaniment on feast days and remained active until the outbreak of the Second World War. At the 2026 L’Incanto Festival, the programme includes a three-day journey featuring social gatherings, traditional flavours and musical impressions.
