Tremezzina combines the landscape of Lake Como with historical and cultural themes. If you would like to combine architecture, local characteristics and excursions in the surrounding area, you will find various points of interest here: old prints and short films as well as information about filming locations, stately villas and religious architecture, the villagescape of Rogaro, and peaks and museums.
Culture by the lakeside
The cultural profile includes the Museo del Paesaggio del Lago di Como, with a collection of old prints of Lake Como from the 16th to the 19th century. This focus is complemented by the multimedia section “Cinema sul Lario”. Short films and information about filming locations are the main features there. The crypt of the Chiesa di Santo Stefano is traditionally dated to the second half of the 11th century and bears witness to the Romanesque period.
Villas and historical traces
Villa Mainona is one of the earliest historically documented examples of a stately villa with a large garden on the lakeside. It was built between 1670 and 1672 for the Mainoni family, who came from Intignano, a hamlet of Tremezzo. Another personal connection leads to Villa Sola Cabiati: it hosted Giuseppe Parini from 1754, when he worked there as a tutor to the owner's children. Villa Sola Cabiati also has a lakeside landing stage added in 1813, which was built according to a design by Francesco Bernardino Ferrari.
Rogaro: panoramic setting and local tradition
Rogaro is a hilly hamlet of Tremezzo with panoramic views and rural stone houses. Rogaro also has a tradition of growing a distinctive local variety of asparagus. In the village centre stands the Oratorio della Madonna di Einsiedeln, built in 1733. When planning your trip, rural architecture, religious history and the local asparagus tradition can be combined in Rogaro as distinct themes.
Peaks, museums and palaces in the surrounding area
Further themes for planning excursions are also available beyond the immediate villagescape. The Museo Moto Guzzi is a museum in the area surrounding Tremezzo. The peaks Cima del Costone, Cima del Nipoti, Monte Colla and Monte Oriolo are located in the same area. The wider regional surroundings of Tremezzo also include the Museo Civico di Erba, Palazzo Secchi and Palazzo Belgioioso. The four peaks complement the museums and palaces in the wider surrounding area with scenic destinations.
Geographical orientation
For a specific connection to Villa Carlotta, the “Tremezzo - Villa Carlotta” landing stage can be used as a reference. It is located 400 m from the entrance to Villa Carlotta. The distance of 400 m can therefore be incorporated into your trip planning as a separate stretch of the route between the landing stage and the entrance to Villa Carlotta.
Further destinations for orientation: Lucino, Colonno, Fino Mornasco, Cantù, Lasnigo, Montorfano, Cusino and Magreglio.
