Settala can be understood through two clear points of reference: the spring and lowland landscape in the eastern part of Parco Agricolo Sud Milano and the rural history of the lower Lombard plain. This picture is complemented by historic buildings, parks, and other places in the immediate area and the wider region.
Springs and Lowland Landscape
The Sorgenti della Muzzetta nature reserve is located within the municipalities of Rodano and Settala, in the eastern part of Parco Agricolo Sud Milano. The Lombardy Region established the protected area in 1984. It protects the spring complex from which the Muzzetta originates and includes several typical lowland landscapes. It was also added to the list of Sites of Community Importance.
Fontanile Rile in Settala consists of three active spring heads surrounded by a well-preserved remnant of planar lowland woodland. By resolution of the Regional Government No. 8/10833 of December 16, 2009, Fontanile Rile was designated a “Zona a monumento naturale”.
Cascina Castello and the Rural Past
Cascina Castello probably originated in the 14th century as a fortified agricultural complex. Since 2007, the complex has housed the Centro Etnografico e Storico-Agricolo delle Arti e Tradizioni contadine. The center explains the rural civilization of the lower Lombard plain up to the middle of the 20th century.
Other Places around Settala
The Cascina Imperiale palace, Palazzo Uffici, and Castello Mediceo are located in the area around Settala. The Muba Museo dei Bambini Milano is also located nearby. These places broaden the cultural context around Settala with palaces, a castle, and a museum. They therefore allow you to take different interests in architecture, local history, and child-friendly culture into account without losing sight of the area's landscape themes.
Parks and Destinations in the Wider Region
Besozza Park is located in the immediate vicinity of Settala. Parco delle Cascine is situated in the area around Settala. The wider region also includes the natural arch Porta Garibaldi and the natural arch Arco della Pace. The geographical references therefore range from nearby park surroundings to more distant regional destinations. For your planning, this distinction helps you consider nearby landscape attractions separately from destinations farther afield.
The Route between Conterico and Settala
A route of historical and landscape importance connects Conterico and Settala. It passes near the Marcita and the rural building complex of Cascina Cassinetta.
Settala therefore offers several directions for choosing your personal focus: springs and lowland woodlands, the rural history of the Lombard plain, historic buildings, parks, or destinations in the wider region. Which of these topics you give greater weight to depends on your preferred travel rhythm and your interests.
