Villas and Churches as Historical Traces

Villa Torri was built in the first half of the 18th century as a residence for wealthy families. It can already be seen on the maps of Charles VI created in 1721. The villa consists of three main building sections arranged in a C shape. For visitors interested in culture, the architectural design here combines with a far-reaching historical connection.

The present-day church of San Remigio was built in 1781, expanded in 1936 and reconsecrated by Cardinal Schuster in 1941. Inside are two large frescoes: one depicts the Deposition of Jesus, while the other shows Saint Helena discovering the True Cross. There is also an old oil painting of the Crucifixion of Jesus. The oil painting differs in technique from the two frescoes. The church therefore offers several distinct visual motifs from different religious depictions.

Villa Cazzaniga also contributes distinctive architectural details to the townscape. Its east wing has a chapel with neoclassical decorations. The square courtyard garden facing the Naviglio is now laid out as a lawn with plants and trees; a centuries-old magnolia stands at its centre.

Landscape Between Waterways and Gravel Pits

Parco Est delle Cave also extends across the municipal area of Vimodrone and the areas of Brugherio, Carugate, Cernusco sul Naviglio and Cologno Monzese. The park includes six bodies of water, some of which are located in gravel pits that are still in operation. The San Remigio festival is also known as “Festieula” and takes place every year on 1 October. The Festa di Santa Croce is a local religious festival held on the first Sunday after 3 May. Santa Maria Nuova al Pilastrello is a destination for guided tours; reservations can be requested from the Associazione Amici di Vimodrone.
