Art and Sacred Sites

Monastero di Torba is a monumental Lombard complex within an archaeological park that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tower preserves frescoes depicting Christ, the Virgin Mary with the Child, a group of saints and a series of praying nuns. These images give the building a distinctive art-historical character.

The vault of the Chiesa di San Vittore Martire is completely covered with frescoes and decorations. They depict the glorification of Saint Victor the Martyr, the four cardinal virtues and the four Evangelists. The Chiesa di Maria Santissima Bambina creates a different focal point on its façade: above the entrance is a mosaic of the Annunciation, complemented by a decorative copper element.

Another sacred site is the single-nave Chiesa di Santa Maria di San Salvatore. It houses a venerated miraculous image of the Virgin Mary. The three churches display different forms of religious art: as comprehensive vault decoration, as a façade detail and as a single image within a simple church interior. At Torba, Christ, Mary with the Child, saints and praying nuns are depicted; San Vittore features Victor, the cardinal virtues and the Evangelists, while Maria Santissima Bambina has a mosaic of the Annunciation above the entrance.

Archaeology and Trail Connections

The Archaeological Park of Castelseprio encompasses the visitable remains of the ancient city of Castel Seprio. From the Archaeological Park, routes connect to the Dorsale RTO, the Sentiero Tenore, the Ticino–Seprio connection and the direction of Carnago.

The Sentiero del Tenore follows the course of the Tenore through a natural setting. Its route along the water is suitable for leisurely walks or cycling. Numerous small streams originate in the Parco Rile-Tenore-Olona, fed by spring water and precipitation. Along the Pista Ciclopedonale della Valle Olona, between Castelseprio and Cairate in the PLIS RTO and near Fagnano in the PLIS Medio Olona, there are several wetlands. They are important for the reproduction of amphibians, dragonflies and other pond-dependent insects.

Cycling with a Time-Based Note

From 17 August to 3 September 2026, pedestrian and bicycle traffic on the section of the Pista ciclopedonale dell'Olona between Castiglione Olona and Gornate, in the San Pancrazio district, was temporarily suspended due to extraordinary maintenance work. The Ferrovia Valmorea is connected with Ceriano on the same cycling map.

When choosing your hotel, you can organize your daily schedule around these highlights: a visit focused on cultural history can be followed by time in natural surroundings, while the Sentiero del Tenore and the wetlands define the focus on nature. This approach supports an individually planned trip to Italy without presupposing a particular accommodation location or facilities.
