Landscape and Days by the Water

The Chiesa della Madonna della Neve has a Romanesque form with a rectangular floor plan, a single-nave interior and a quadrangular presbytery. In Monate, the Chiesa di Santa Maria della Neve was built in the second half of the 14th century. Its south wall preserves a fragment of a Crucifixion scene.

Villa La Motta represents another historical accent. It was built in the second half of the 19th century based on a design by the architect Giuseppe Balzaretti. A large park surrounds Villa La Motta; from there, Lake Monate and Lake Maggiore can be seen. For your travel planning, this creates a contrast between medieval sacred architecture, Romanesque forms and a 19th-century villa.

Villa Baumann, a palace, is located in the immediate vicinity of Travedona-Monate. The Chiostro di Voltorre, a museum, is also located nearby. The beaches Spiaggia del Sasso Cavallazzo and Spiaggia dei Caravalle are located in the vicinity of Travedona-Monate. Golf is available at the Golf dei Laghi course in Travedona. It has 18 holes and a par of 73 and was designed by Piero Mancinelli. Another local specialty is Pesche di Monate: they are included in Italy’s national list of traditional agri-food products. The lake, leisure activities and a regional product thus provide three different ways of experiencing the area.
