Loreto reveals its character especially where religious tradition, architecture and actual routes through the city come together. The Basilica della Santa Casa has 13 apse chapels in the late Gothic style with Florentine influences, known as the chapels of the nations. The museum in Loreto has a room dedicated exclusively to Lorenzo Lotto. Seven of his works are displayed there in the same arrangement that the painter had intended for the basilica's choir. The Museo Storico Aeronautico preserves authentic, complete military uniforms of the Regia Aeronautica, including original and in some cases unique pieces. The Scala Santa (1941) continues to connect Loreto railway station with the Porta Marina, one of the main entrances to Piazza della Madonna and the basilica there. The permanent mechanical nativity scene Presepe Permanente Benedetto XVI comprises more than 100 moving figures and reconstructs scenes of historical professions from the Annunciation to the birth of Christ. Loreto also celebrates the recurring tradition of the “Venuta” by lighting bonfires.
