Piticchio: Ramparts, Gates and Unique Cultural Sites

Piticchio reveals its character where defensive architecture, sacred art and ceramic works come together. The Porta Maggiore is a late-medieval pointed arch at the foot of the tower. Above the Porta Maggiore are a clock and a coat of arms; both are ceramic works by Bruno d'Arcevia and were installed in 1991. This entrance alone combines a specific architectural detail with dated works of art, giving you a first point of reference for exploring Piticchio.

Defensive Walls and Churches

The original steep access ramp and drawbridge of Piticchio were replaced by a convenient side embankment. The walkway along Piticchio's walls is fully accessible. Covered sections of Piticchio's ramparts offer views towards Arcevia. For planning your visit, you can therefore consider the access route, the walkable ramparts and the view towards Arcevia as three distinct experiences.

The Church of San Sebastiano stands at the summit of Piticchio Castle. The church in Piticchio contains a painting of the Madonna del Rosario by Ramazzani, painted in 1582. Palazzo Carletti Giampieri, dating from the 18th century, stands on Piticchio's main street. Palazzo Carletti Giampieri houses a neoclassical theatre that is one of the smallest theatres in Europe. The church, painting, palace and theatre each provide a distinct focus for a culture-oriented walking tour.

The collection at Piticchio's toy museum includes antique dolls, games from different periods, model railways, soldier and cowboy figures, as well as models of historic cars.
