The stone probably dates from the imperial period, from the 1st or early 2nd century AD, and shows in relief an innkeeper and a traveller with his horse. It was found at a junction of the Via Latina near the Taverna della Trinità in the Quadrelle district of Macchia d'Isernia. The stone has been kept at the Musée du Louvre since 1901.

Samnite Votive Art

The Ercole Sannita is a bronze votive statuette associated with the Samnite population groups. In 1980, it was found in the area around Macchia d'Isernia together with other votive objects. These objects may date from the 3rd or early 2nd century BC.

The Church of San Nicola di Bari is the main church of Macchia d'Isernia. The patron saint San Nicola is celebrated on 9 May. In addition, the Collina di Santa Maria is designated as a site of community interest.
