Hilly setting and townscape

Spineto Scrivia lies on the first hills rising from the plain of the Scrivia River. The location offers views across the plain of the Scrivia River and the surrounding hilly landscape. A tall bell tower rises above the rooftops and makes it easier to find your way around the town. Of the former castle complex, the ruins of a low tower, an entrance gate and other attached structures remain today. The open hillside setting and the preserved structural elements form two distinct accents in the townscape.

Churches and historical traces

The Oratorio Santissima Trinità e Annunciazione della B.V. Maria has been documented since an apostolic visitation held on 15 July 1576. It was rebuilt over the following twenty years. The original parish church of Spineto Scrivia probably also dates no earlier than the 15th century and was damaged by an earthquake. In the second half of the 19th century, it was completely rebuilt as the parish church of San Giacomo Apostolo.

Cultural attractions in the surrounding area

In the area around Spineto Scrivia is the Episcopal Palace, a palace. Also nearby are the Museo don Carlo Sterpi, a museum, and Palazzo Guidobono, also a palace. The Abbazia di Rivalta Scrivia, a historic site, is also located in the immediate surroundings. The Episcopal Palace and Palazzo Guidobono are palaces; the Museo don Carlo Sterpi is a museum, and the Abbazia di Rivalta Scrivia is a historic site.

Gardens, parks and mountain landscapes

In the wider regional surroundings of Spineto Scrivia, the Giardini Garibaldi are a garden, the Miniaturgolf Club Novi Ligure is a park, Monte Giarolo is a mountain and the Parco del Castello di Marengo is a park. The Giardini Garibaldi and the two parks belong to the designed landscape, while Monte Giarolo, as a mountain, introduces a different relationship with the landscape.

Viticulture and cycling route

La Castagna is a family-run agricultural business with a long history and tradition of cultivating high-quality grapevines. It grows grape varieties typical of this area, including Barbera and Timorasso. The Circuito di Castellania Coppi is a paved cycling route created in honour of Fausto and Serse Coppi. Viticulture and cycling history come together here as two distinct regional themes: the business represents grape varieties and agriculture, while the route represents its asphalt surface and dedication to the two Coppi brothers.

A small meeting place for books

One of the town's special details is a book-sharing station in a disused telephone booth. You can take a book there and voluntarily leave one in return. Alongside the churches and castle ruins, the disused telephone booth thus adds a small, everyday point of interest to the townscape.
