Baldichieri D'asti between Forest Path, Fossils and Churches

The Sentiero del Conte runs through the wooded upper section of Baldichieri d'Asti. Its destinations include the Riserva naturale della Valle Andona, Valle Botto e Valle Grande and Castellero. Locally, the path is also known as “Il bosco di tutti”, after children studied its flora and fauna years ago. The name gives the path a clear connection to observing nature.

In the direction of Castellero and Monale, fossil-bearing deposits can be found along roads and in forests. An index fossil discovered in Baldichieri d'Asti made it possible to date the fossil-bearing layer with certainty. Here, the view of the forest is linked to a specific geological theme.

Church and historic townscapes

The Monumento ai Caduti stands in the centre of the Parco della Rimembranza. The Chiesa di San Secondo was built around 1673 on the site of the former Oratorio di Santa Maria Assunta, which had already served as a parish church since the 16th century. The church was extended under the direction of Don Giovanni Battista Casto. It has a single-nave layout and four interconnected chapels.

The façade of the Chiesa di San Secondo, completed in 1828, consists of plastered masonry, has a stepped profile and is structured by niches and four Doric columns attached to the wall. The Biblioteca l'Armadio degli alberi is a small library devoted to the plant world and is unique of its kind in the Astigiano area.
